Most renal pedicle injuries commonly have resulted in loss of renal function. Immediate surgical repair of the pedicle through early vascular control is reguired if renal function is to be saved by restoration of blood to the ischemic kidney. If warm ischemia time is expected to exceed 60 minutes external and internal cooling of the kidney may achieve salvage of the functional renal parenchyma. We herein report our attempt at immediate treatment of a renal pedicle injury in a patient who had penetrating abdominal trauma, aiming at maximum preservation of functioning renal tissue.
